TikTok - a platform full of creativity - has quickly become one of the most popular social media sites in the world.

With more than 800 million monthly users worldwide, the growth of this short video app is unstoppable. In recent years, it has become the central meeting place for the world's young and ambitious creatives.

Did you know that you can also earn money by posting on TikToks?

If you have more than 10,000 followers on TikTok, you can start earning money with videos that are longer than one minute. If you want to learn more about the requirements, check out this article.

On my way to making money with TikTok, I made a lot of mistakes that I wouldn't make now.

With more than 70,000 followers, I know what I'm talking about. These mistakes made sure that I now know how to build and maintain a channel the right way.

If you are interested in exactly how the Creator Rewards program works, I recommend this article.

I can give you some tips so that you don't make the same mistakes I did:

Finding the right niche.

The first important step in building your TikTok page is to find the right niche.

Don't underestimate this and do your research before you decide on anything.

First, think about how you want to monetize your channel.

In addition to the TikTok Creator Fund, you can also earn money with the TikTok Shop, try your luck with affiliate marketing or with paid sponsorships, but this section will only deal with the TikTok Creator Fund. Here are important points to keep in mind when choosing your TikTok niche:

1. Make sure you have a high RPM.

Serving a niche in which a high RPM is expected is the be-all and end-all when selecting your niche.

The RPM is equivalent to the payment per 1000 views you receive.

You should therefore serve a niche that is mainly served by adults, as they are usually more willing to pay than small children, which results in a higher RPM.

A good RPM can easily reach more than 70 cents, a low one - for example in the gaming niche - only 10 cents.

2. One minute clips.

Remember that you only get paid if your videos are over a minute long. So keep in mind that if you have 10,000 or more followers, you can easily create good content that lasts longer than a minute.

3. Not high competitiveness.

Low competitiveness is important because you want to have low competition so that your viewers don't get tired of your content before they've even seen it.

4. Easy reproducibility.

Your content should be easy to reproduce. This means you have to spend less time on a video, leaving you more time for other projects.

Warm up your account.

One of the most important things I've learned is how important it is to warm up a new account.

You probably know the 0 viewer problem. You post a new video, but no one watches it even though it's approved for the For You page.

This is usually because TikTok has rated you as a bot or spammer. This happens if you have uploaded a video directly without actually using the app like a normal user.

To prevent this and avoid your first videos not getting any views, you need to warm up your account.

You do this by not uploading a video for the first 2 days. I know it's hard to have to wait with a big drive, but it's worth it. During these 2 days, use TikTok 3 times a day for at least 5 minutes and scroll through the For You page.

To do this, you explicitly search for videos in your niche where you plan to create similar videos. You interact with these channels so that at the end of the 2 days your For You Page is full of videos of the type you want to create.

This kills 2 birds with one stone. Firstly, your account is warmed up and secondly, the TikTok algorithm has to spend less time finding the right audience for your content as it already knows your perfect audience through your ForYouPage.

Don't rush things.

After you've warmed up your channel, you shouldn't upload tons of videos straight away.

If you upload 3 videos or more straight away, TikTok will identify you as a spammer. Start with one video per day.

After a few days you can increase the number, but you should wait more than a week before posting more than one video a day.

Do not reupload videos.

Once you've joined the TikTok Creator Fund, you shouldn't start reuploading your videos over and over again.

When I first joined the Creator Fund, I thought it was a good idea to clip old videos together so I could post more videos a day.

The videos were played and also achieved good viewing figures, but I could see how the RPM continued to drop and after I had already uploaded some videos several times in different variations, the viewing figures also dropped dramatically.

No more than 30 videos per month.

As I have just explained, my RPM has fallen sharply. But that was also because I was uploading up to 10 videos a day.

You should definitely not do that. TikTok now focuses more on high-quality content than quantity. This means that it is more important to deliver high quality than it was last year.

And they are sticking to it. The RPM drops drastically if you overdo it with uploaded videos. So don't upload more than one video a day so that your videos are perceived as high quality and your RPM stays high.

Avoid copyright infringements.

Copyright infringement is bad, whether you are already in the TikTok Creator Fund or not.

In my experience, videos with a copyright infringement have generated fewer views than the previous ones. In addition, creators whose content you have unjustifiably stolen can take action against you.

After 3 strikes, your account is lost forever. Once you are in the TikTok Creator Fund, your RPM will decrease for each copyright infringement.

Do not upload streamers or podcast clips.

The time of streamers or podcast clips on TikTok is over.

No matter what Youtube or TikTok gurus say, it's not worth starting such a channel anymore. I have tried this niche myself.

Although it is now possible to get hardly any more unoriginal content strikes through various tactics, about every second video was taken down for these reasons.

It is also very difficult to reach 10,000 followers in this niche, as the competition is extremely high and this niche is saturated.

Finally, only a few accounts with this content are still eligible for the TikTok Creator Fund, as TikTok only wants to promote its own creative content.

So rather think of a suitable niche yourself and create your content yourself, you'll be doing yourself a big favor and saving yourself a lot of valuable time in which you could have already created other TikTok theme pages.

Find your own niche and don't use the YouTube gurus.

Of course, finding your own well-functioning TikTok niches is not easy.

That's why the easy and convenient way is to look at what YouTubers suggest as good niches for the future.

But you're not the only one watching these videos. So many people are starting with you at the same moment with the niche you just wanted to start with, which means nothing but competition for you.

Especially if these niches seem good, they are quickly saturated so that you can hardly achieve more views with this type of content.

Upload slideshows.

One of the most effective ways to quickly build followers with little effort is to upload slideshows.

These often only require a few minutes of effort and can go just as viral as normal videos. And this can be used with the most diverse content strategies.

For example, if you create cooking videos, you can upload images of cooked food. Or if you are active in the financial sector, it can be a good idea to upload your financial tips in the form of images.

So next time you give stock tips, upload your stock tips in picture form.

Don't upload videos to your story.

What made my RPM drop by half on my first channel had to do with a stupid mistake.

To reach more people, I reuploaded my latest video in the TikTok Story. This is mostly pointless by the way, you can save yourself the trouble of uploading videos to your TikTok Story.

The problem was that the video I uploaded to the story was over a minute long and was therefore included in the Creator Rewards Program.

The story was eventually banned from the For You page due to unoriginal content and my RPM dropped by half.

Conclusion.

I've already made some mistakes on TikTok that I wouldn't have made if I had read this blog article.

So I hope this entry has helped you and you don't make the same mistakes I did.

If you haven´t startet your own TikTokpage yet, do not wait too long. Try it out and I am sure you will have fun with it and earn good money on a sidlehustle basis.
